Orchomenos in Arcadia:  a hilltop settlement existed here since Mycenaean times. We located the remains of the 5th century BC theatre, built into the natural hillside at 3000 feet. What a breath-taking backdrop for spectators watching a performance at this location

Ancient Olympia: site of the ancient Olympic Games held every 4 years within the sanctuary of Olympian Zeus. In spring time, the excavations are brightened by the blossom of Judas trees. The Olympic torch for the 2004 Games was kindled here on Greek Independence Day 25 March

Aginara Beach:  we camped within 100m of this magnificent beach. The island on the horizon is Zakinthos, one of the Ionian Islands off the west coast of Greece. The sound of crashing surf was a constant presence.

Temple of Apollo, Bassae:  the temple is now enclosed by this protective canopy as part of the preservation programme. Before this was put up, what a sight Bassai would have been, in the wilds on a shoulder of Mt Kotilion at 3,700 feet
