'The Toast'

NATIONAL ANTHEM:  the words for the National Anthem are taken from a political poem Zdravljica (The Toast)  by Slovenia's most celebrated poet France Prešeren (1800~1849), whose portrait appears on the 1000 Tolar note (see below):

God's blessing on all nations,
Who long and work for that bright day,
When over earth's habitation
No war, no strife shall hold its sway;
Who long to see
That all men free
No more shall foes, but neighbours be

CURRENCY:  the country's national currency is the Slovenian Tolar, usually abbreviated to SIT.  As a member of the EEC since May 2004, Slovenia has applied to adopt the Euro and is expected to qualify for this in 2007
