Battle of Mohács memorial: erected in 1976 to mark 450th anniversary of Mohács on the site of mass graves of 25,000 Hungarians killed in the battle. This devastating defeat by the invading Turks marked the beginnings of over 4 centuries of foreign occupation and rule for the Magyars

Culture Centre at Pécs:  Pécs in southern Transdanubia is a delightful city with many elegant Art Nouveau buildings, as well as surviving mosques from the 150 year period of Turkish occupation which followed the disastrous defeat of the Magyars at the Battle of Mohács
Vines overlooking Lake Balaton at Badascony:  Lake Balaton serves as 'inland sea' for land-locked Hungary. In summer, the resorts around Balaton heave with tourists, but in early October, one can enjoy Balaton's light dry white wines in peace Market stall at Nyúl:  followers of this web site will know the affection we have for shopping in markets. Surprisingly we have not encountered many during of travels around Hungary. But this one at the village of Nyúl was delightful, with a whole range of paprikas
