Detailed, well-written and thoroughly researched resource for travellers:

Carolyn and Robert, West Sussex (experienced motor-caravanners), May 2025

This 500 page book is a comprehensive source of information about Finland and Finnish Lapland for summer visitors with time to explore in detail this beautiful country. There is a worthwhile introduction to Finland's history, geography, and politics, and the background story of its people. Most of the book's text forms a detailed description of the authors' spring to autumn journey of some 6000 miles covering the entire country. The travelogue narrative traces their journey from the Åland Islands to southern Finland, Helsinki, and up the eastern border with Russia to the Arctic Circle and Finnish Lapland. From the Norwegian border, the route returns south through the northwest and central and southwestern regions, for the return ferry from Turku. The travels are illustrated with the authors' many fine colour photos of places, plants and wild life, and detailed maps to show the route. The book's extensive and detailed index is invaluable.

This fascinating account includes many places of interest, including the now closed Russian border, and the sites of the terrible conflict of the Winter and Continuation Wars, following the WW2 Russian invasions. These are offset by visits to many of Finland's fine nature reserves, whose varied terrain provides excellent walking and camping opportunity. In Lapland the majesty of these stunning wild regions with herds of reindeer and the pastoral Sámi people is carefully explored, and the photos and descriptions of this region will encourage the adventurous traveller to explore these faraway parts of Europe. Since the authors were travelling in a small VW camper, naturally there is an emphasis on the camping aspects of these travels, of great usefulness to those journeying the same way; they include and also review a list of all the camp sites used. This is an ideal way of exploring and getting away from the more touristy places, and is a great way of having affordable trips extending over many weeks. It also gives ready opportunity for study of wild fauna and flora, and the book contains much information and many photos to illustrate the authors' considerable success in this area.

However one travels, this detailed, well-researched book would be a very invaluable resource from which to design a journey of one’s own.

A remarkable book:

I have never seen such a comprehensive travel book on Finland's natural and sightseeing locations. Also with so many insights, and written with such knowledge of the flora of Finland. The book describes many places which even we have still to visit; so this is also a source of ideas for us.  Congratulations on creating such a valuable book, and for visiting all of these places in Finland all the way from UK.
